Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) students were not connecting how their financial aid funding was linked to their academic performance. With 97% of beginning students on financial aid, failure to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy easily translated into dropping out. The Financial Aid Office was looking for ways to improve understanding of their SAP policy and to keep students on the road to educational success.
GNTC began requiring students to a complete a GetSAP Appeals session as a part of the SAP Appeals process. GNTC also encouraged incoming students to review the Proactive GetSAP session to understand GNTC’s SAP policy. In the first year of using these new tools, students increased their knowledge by 21% on average over their pre-test score after they took one of the GetSAP sessions. Additionally, 92% of students successfully passed the testing component after completing an interactive GetSAP session.
